Abstract:
Chiefly professional quality views of the Hat Creek Radio Observatory complex taken during its construction and the early
years of its operation as an astronomical research unit affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley. Topics of
photographic prints include the radio telescope; various buildings, machinery and other aspects of the observatory facilities;
and the surrounding landscape. Oversize folder (B) contains 1 print depicting an unnamed building during construction. Also
includes 2 news releases issued in 1962 by Philco Corporation, the designer and manufacturer of the radio telescope; an incomplete
media information kit (from 1961?) also issued by Philco; and an annotated 1959 typescript specifications report on the construction
of the radio telescope. Topics of negatives, taken 1959-1961, include construction of dishes and a telescope, aerial views
